What a gift actually does
Most of what we spend goes on the two Edmonton programs: supplies for the street rounds, and the practical business of getting a newcomer family set up.
The rest funds our international programs, where the Thirty Dollars Campaign covers a school term for a child in a Ugandan refugee settlement.

Organizations
Partner with us
Churches, community groups, businesses and individuals across Canada and the United States. For our international programs we work with the Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Education, alongside agencies including UNHCR and UNICEF.
Settlement agencies and NGOs
If you work with newcomers or with people experiencing homelessness in the Edmonton area, we would like to know you. We would rather coordinate than duplicate. The same applies to organizations operating in the Ugandan settlements.
Funders and foundations
The Mbarara school project is costed at $398,000 with a line-by-line budget, and individual lines can be funded separately. Full project proposals and reporting frameworks are available on request.
Businesses
We develop partnerships with local businesses for job placements, and welcome donations in kind: warm clothing and supplies for the street rounds, or household basics for newcomer families setting up a home.

Volunteering
Part of our sustainability plan is a network of community volunteers who continue supporting refugees beyond the duration of any single project.
Join a street round
Come out with the team in Edmonton to hand out water, food and warm clothing. No experience needed. Turning up consistently is the skill.
Help a family settle
Sit with a newly arrived family and work through the practical things: transit, shopping, the school run, and how the appliances in their home work.
Interpret
If you speak Kinyarwanda, Kirundi, Kiswahili, French or another language spoken by newcomers here, you can make every other kind of help possible.
Mentor
Offer guidance on career paths, education and community resources to someone finding their way in a new country.
Fundraise locally
Take the work to your church, workplace or community group in Canada or the United States.
Join a visit tour
We organise visit tours to Uganda so supporters can see the international programs directly.

Both Canadian programs run in the Edmonton area. Our international programs reach five refugee settlements in Uganda.

How do I send a gift right now?

Will I receive a tax receipt?
Hope Ineza Foundation holds non-profit documentation in Alberta, Canada, and is a registered non-profit in Uganda for its international programs. Only charities registered with the Canada Revenue Agency may issue official donation receipts for Canadian income tax purposes. Please contact us to confirm the current position before giving if a receipt matters to you.
Can I sponsor one specific child?
Please contact us to discuss it. Sponsorship is directed to orphans and the most vulnerable children in the settlements, and we can talk through what naming an individual child would involve and what safeguarding it requires.
Can I give to the school project instead?
Yes. The Mbarara school budget breaks into land, primary construction, secondary construction, equipment, teacher incentives and the playground. Any single line can be funded on its own. See the full budget.

Yes. Mobilising churches in Canada, the United States and elsewhere is part of how this work is funded. Send your dates and we will arrange it.
I have just arrived in Canada. Can you help?
Yes. Get in touch and we will arrange a time to sit down with you and work through what you need: documents, transit, schools, shopping, and how everything in your new home works.
Can we visit the projects in Uganda?
We organise visit tours to Uganda for field awareness. Contact us about joining an upcoming tour or arranging one for your organization.
Do you accept goods rather than money?
Yes, for the Canadian work. Warm clothing, non-perishable food and household basics are used on the street rounds and by newcomer families setting up a home. For the overseas programs a cash gift goes considerably further than shipping. Contact us before sending anything.
